about
‘Veer’ is an original composition based on a traditional folk melody from the Indian state of Panjab, and it truly showcases the emotional range of Jasdeep’s sitar playing, with tabla accompaniment by Upneet Singh and a beautiful string arrangement performed by the Millenia String Ensemble.
‘Veer’ is a very personal piece of music which Jasdeep dedicates to the memory of his younger brother Taran.
“The title means ‘brother’ in Panjabi, and is associated with courage and valour,” explains Jasdeep. “In September of this year, I lost my little brother Taran who tragically took his own life at the age of 26. I have decided to share this track now in honour of him.”
The cover art for ‘Veer’ was created by visual artist and close friend of Jasdeep, Dilrani Kaur. Dilrani illustrates the lyrics of the Panjab folk song which inspired the track, ‘Ours is a flock of birds, dear father / We’ll fly away.’
Jasdeep and his family have started a Just Giving campaign in memory of his brother, with proceeds going to two local Leeds charities that help people experiencing difficulties with mental health and families who see a loved one in crisis.

The production lays down an enthralling soulful, funky blend of modern and traditional that allows Rokia Koné's powerful vocals to really shine through. I'm so glad I was introduced to this! Colin M.
